Authors for Indies Day 2016 returns April 30

Last year, the inaugural Authors for Indies Day was a huge success—participating bookstores reported an average boost of 18.5% in sales. This year, the event returns on Saturday, April 30, 2016.

On Authors for Indies Day, Canadian authors show their appreciation for independent bookstores by volunteering as guest booksellers, chatting with customers, recommending books, and having a jovial day at the bookstore.

“We’ll be chatting with customers, recommending books, and helping everyone appreciate the importance of indie bookstores to our communities and our cultural lives. It’s not about [authors] promoting ourselves, it’s about raising awareness of Canada’s independent bookstores.”

Bookstores and authors are teaming up every day, you can use the FIND A STORE function on the Authors for Indies website to see which indie bookstores near you are hosting authors.

Inaugural Canadian Authors for Indies day on May 2

Janie Chang, a graduate of The Writers’ Studio, is spearheading the inaugural Canadian Authors for Indies day to support Independent Bookstores.

Authors pair up with their local independent bookstore and help out for the day (readings, signings, chatting, recommendations). According to Quill & Quire, as of last week, 99 bookstores and more than 300 writers from 10 provinces and territories have agreed to participate.
