The Rowly Lorimer Project Report Excellence Award

Rowland_LorimerRowly Lorimer is the founder and — for its first two decades — director of Publishing @ SFU. In the late 1980s he established the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing at SFU and later the Master of Publishing Program, which has been active since 1995. He has overseen the establishment and growth of the Undergraduate Minor in Print and Digital Publishing, and, since 1997, the continued development of the SFU Publishing Workshops series.

Rowly is the author of Ultra Libris: Policy, Technology, and the Creative Economy of Book Publishing in Canada (Toronto: ECW Press, 2012). He is past editor and publisher of the Canadian Journal of Communication, an honorary president of the Association for Canadian Studies, and a past president of the Canadian Association of Learned Journals. He has conducted extensive research into the Canadian publishing industry and the mass media, including more than 20 commissioned studies on book, magazine, and scholarly journal publishing in Canada as well as extensive efforts to facilitate the transition of journal, book, and magazine publishers into online publishing.

This award, established to commemorate Rowly’s coming retirement and celebrate his remarkable achievements in Publishing and education, recognizes the very best graduate research in publishing studies. It will be awarded annually to a Master of Publishing student on completion of the Project Report, which is the capstone requirement for the MPub degree. Thank you for your support.
