September declared Literacy Month in Vancouver

Mayor Gregor Robertson has officially proclaimed September 2015 “Literacy Month” in Vancouver. There will be an official Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall on September 8, 2015, which is UNESCO International Literacy Day.

Brenda Le Clair, CEO of Decoda Literacy Solutions and the Board of Directors of Decoda will be in attendance. The event corresponds with Decoda’s annual Literacy is Life campaign each September.

Decoda Literacy Solutions is the leading non-profit literacy organization in British Columbia. Supporting a network of 102 community task groups, Decoda provides resources, training and funds to address community-based literacy and learning priorities in more than 400 communities across the province.

The Literacy is Life campaign in September is a province-wide fundraising and awareness campaign, and will raise awareness of the importance of literacy; create a new, modern understanding of literacy; and raise funds to support community-based literacy programs and initiatives across British Columbia.
