No longer confined to printed sheets of paper between covers, or run by “traditional’ companies, publishing has returned to its historic roots of the creation of narrative and making it public. While publishing houses are still integral to this cultural industry, experimentation with content, and how it reaches the readers eyes, has created a dynamic publishing environment never seen before.
This summer we have a mix of publishing, management, and independent publishing workshops. We continue to offer the mainstays of any publishing career including Copyediting and Proofreading and Adobe Creative Suite courses.
In February 2017 we are very excited to offer a new immersion workshop for up and coming managers in publishing. The Emerging Leaders Summit brings together senior publishing professionals and SFU’s Masters students and faculty for a one-week “hot house” centred on “Key Publishing Transitions and Implications”.
Also new in 2016, is the launch of the online Print and Digital Editing Immersion workshop, which replaces our on-site Book Editing Immersion workshop. This new format allows residents outside of the Lower Mainland an opportunity to attend one of SFU’s premier workshops. Renowned for its networking opportunities, in this new online format the workshop facilitates direct conversations with guest speakers and the course instructor. Links, videos, real-time editing demos complement many other interactive elements to simulate a face to face classroom.
Faculty is drawn from the top publishing and technology professionals in Canada, and work closely with SFU to create the most relevant curriculum possible.
